The EU's biofuels industry welcomed endorsement, by the Council of Ministers on 7 July, of definitive measures against US biodiesel. The measures were a response to two legal complaints brought by the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) early in 2008. The association, which represents much of the biofuels producing industry in the EU, complained at US subsidies enabling US biodiesel to sell on the European market at a substantial discount. The EBB alleges that this price is even lower than that of the vegetable oil raw materials purchased by the EU industry for producing biodiesel.
The two regulations imposing definitive measures for a period of five years could be published in the Official Journal as early as 12 July.
