The launch of John Duffield's new venture Brompton Asset Management is gathering pace after new trademarks and internet domains were registered ahead of his return to the investment industry.
Stephen Philpot, Mr Duffield's former service delivery manager at New Star, has registered five new web domains including bromptonam.com, bromptonim.com, bromptonpm.com and bromptonif.com.
Mr Duffield has taken steps to register five new trademarks in his first foray into the investment industry since the sale of New Star Asset Management to Henderson Global Investors earlier this year for GBP107m in cash and shares.
Brompton Asset Management replaced its previous incarnation, Hyde Park Asset Management, after legal letters were sent on behalf of hedge-fund marketing company Hyde Park Investment, which claimed the name for use with financial services.
Four companies originally registered by Mr Duffield were rebranded after his lawyers agreed it would not use the Hyde Park name or any similar name.
Specialist law firm Olswang has submitted the trademarks on behalf of Brompton Asset Management, but the link to Olswang is not just limited to the trademarks - the firm's offices were also given as the registered address for two new companies bearing the Brompton branding.
