A study published in Archives of Internal Medicine, March 23, 2009 reveals a dramatic decrease in vitamin D levels among Americans. The study, which analyzed data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), looked at vitamin D levels in 18,883 people between 1988 and 1994, and 13,369 people between 2001 and 2004. The age range of the two study groups was from 12 to 60-plus years, and included 8,368 adults over age 60.
