CancerTV.com has announced the launch of an educational video sharing site that demystifies cancer and treatments for patients and educates health care providers worldwide. Combining original programming with an interactive community and on-demand video library uploaded by physicians, patients, pharmaceutical firms, academics, researchers and patient advocacy groups, CancerTV provides instant access to the latest cancer news, best practices and research through engaging, user-friendly videos. Launched by Dr. Myo Thant, M.D., a respected hematologist/oncologist with 30 years in practice, CancerTV is the educational resource and virtual community for cancer patients and their supporters, physicians and caregivers.
In addition to educational content produced by CancerTV and leading cancer institutions, user-generated videos detail personal experiences, offer advice, support and more. Visitors can comment on videos, write or read topical blogs and contribute their own thoughts or questions. Interactive videos by physicians on select topics such as breast cancer, colon/rectal cancer, lung cancer or supportive care for patients are also offered.
"CancerTV has the potential to become an important source of information and education for patients and their families," said B. Douglas Smith, M.D., Associate Professor of Hematologic Malignancies at The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. "Newly diagnosed patients cannot possibly begin to absorb all the information provided by their physician in an office visit. To be able to direct patients to an educational site where they can learn more about their condition or the treatments available is really a great resource for practicing physicians, as well as our patients."
A weekly segment, CancerTV News, reports on current research and breakthroughs in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. All news segments are broadcast in English by a professional anchorperson, and will also be offered in Spanish in the future. CancerTV Talk features interviews with oncology thought-leaders, prominent physicians, representatives of institutions and executives from leading cancer related corporations. Oncologists will also respond to emails, providing explanations to care strategies and concerns in addition to approaches they might take related to other medical situations. All content is accessible via mobile devices.
