Audi's R15 TDI LMP1 prototype has been ruled legal ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A brief statement from the race organizer, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, said that the Le Mans version of the LMP1 turbodiesel has been homologated for the race. It did not say whether Audi had to make changes to the car in the wake of complaints from Peugeot and Aston Martin Racing about its front-splitter arrangement and an engine-cover opening (Competition, April 20).
Wheatcroft & Son, owner of the Donington Park venue where the Formula One British Grand Prix is due to take place in 2010, and its tenant Donington Ventures Leisure, the race promoter, have settled litigation out of court. Wheatcroft claimed DVL owed it about $4 million in rent and demanded that DVL, which has begun major redevelopment work, forfeit its lease. The settlement apparently means that Silverstone will be hosting the British Grand Prix for the last time later this month.
The FIA World Motor Sport Council is expected to make a definitive decision on the World Rally Championship's future technical regulations when it meets on June 24. In March, the WMSC announced that the normally aspirated S2000 category would be phased in as the WRC's principal formula from 2010 but subsequently said it would reassess the possibility of switching to a 1.6-liter turbo formula for 2011. As a result, the eight manufacturers committed to S2000-based cars have been left in limbo, while defending WRC champion Citroen halted its S2000 development program.
