Miners to cut 15% of jobs at Hotazel mine Retrenchments blamed on fall in metal prices, general downturn EDWARD WEST AFRICAN Rainbow Minerals' (ARM's) subsidiary Assmang and BHP Billiton on Monday announced retrenchments at their ferromanganese operations.

Global mining giant BHP Billiton said it had informed trade union Solidarity it planned to retrench about 15% of the employees at Hotazel Manganese Mines.

The process of retrenching some 150 of about 950 mine employees started at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration in Kimberley on Monday. ARM's share price fell 5,3% to R135,42 a share, outstripping declines in …
