Oskar Batschmann's preface is preceded by a photograph of the north wall of S. Zaccaria. Giovanni Bellini's famous Sacra conversazione appears in the center, distinguished from the adjacent paintings by the stone frame that surrounds it, and by the visitors who stand before it. their heads down as if reading guidebooks. The view, taken from across the nave, recalls Thomas Smith's photograph San Zaccaria (1995).
