SCHUMACHER LANDS JOB
Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has been named chairman of the FIA's new Motor Sport Safety Development Fund, which is financed with the $100 million fine levied last year on McLaren Racing when it was found guilty of industrial espionage. The fund will distribute grants to help young drivers, improve safety skills for officials and develop venues in emerging motorsports nations. Schu-macher's management board is made up of FIA president Max Mosley, ACCUS president Nick Craw, Ferrari director Jean Todt and Mercedes-Benz Motorsport director Norbert Haug.
PCM GETS PAID
Pacific Coast Motorsports received $300,000 from the Indianapolis 500's prize fund for being a full-time competitor in the IndyCar Series, even though Mario Dominguez did not earn a starting spot in the race. The same scenario will hold true later this month at Richmond International Raceway if a driver is bumped from the field. The track can accommodate only 26 competitors; the series has 27.
HELPING HANDS
Andretti Green Racing's Tony Kanaan carried one of IndyCar driver Sarah Fisher's sponsor logos on his front wing at Milwaukee as a sign of goodwill following their accident in the Indy 500. AGR also gave Sarah Fisher Racing an underwing to replace the one damaged in her crash with Kanaan.
