Rolls Shows Baby

Rolls-Royce has released design sketches of the "baby Rolls'' scheduled for launch in 2010. Codenamed RR4, the new sedan will be smaller than the Phantom. Built on the chassis underpinning the next-generation BMW 7 Series due this fall, the RR4 will have a new, unique-to-Rolls engine.

Rolls-Royce plans to build as many as 800 copies per year, priced at $250,000 to $350,000. The first cars will be sedans, but the company has not ruled out other body styles.

Vantage Upgrades

Aston Martin has dramatically reworked the V8 Vantage's engine and transmission, resulting in a car that makes 420 hp, can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. The 2009 model goes on sale in the third quarter of 2008.

Aston Martin bored and stroked the engine, increasing displacement from 4.3 liters to 4.7 liters, while also updating most of the engine's parts. The Sportshift automated manual transmission is updated for quicker upshifts in sport mode and smoother downshifts in comfort mode.
