UCH to seek license for $15M long-term hospital. (University Community Hospital)

Led by University Community Hospital's plans to build a $15 million, 50-bed, long-term care hospital in Hillsborough County, 14 Bay Area companies have notified the state that they hope to launch a variety of hospital and home-health care projects in coming months.

Besides UCH, others filing letters of intent - which are precursors of certificate-of-need applications - included Tampa General Hospital, Columbia Brandon Regional Medical Center, Columbia Sarasota Doctor's Hospital and Adventist Health System Inc.'s East Pasco Medical Center.

In all, the value of the projects described in the notices totals nearly $30 million.
