Shoney's(R) announced that "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, former WCW and WWA World Heavyweight Champion and one of the Steiner Brothers, six-time WCW World Tag Team Champions, will be participating in the upcoming Shoney's 2009 5K Family Fun Run, the first ever family fun event of its kind benefiting the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (see also Shoney's).
"This is more than a celebrity guest appearance by Scott Steiner, one of the most dominant pro wrestlers in history," said David Davoudpour, chairman and chief executive officer of Shoney's. "'Big Poppa Pump' will be an active participant in the race because he believes in what Shoney's is doing to benefit the Nashville police."
Steiner, who has dominated the main event scene since capturing the WCW heavyweight championship from Booker T. in 2000 and who is still a headliner with TNA, liked the cause enough to not only appear and sign autographs, but to be in the race himself.
"'Big Poppa Pump' is going to put his muscles where the race is: on the streets of Nashville on June 6," said Steiner. "I believe so much in what Shoney's is doing for the men and women in blue that making an appearance just wasn't enough. I am going to pound the pavement myself for this great cause."
Through its inaugural Family Fun Run, Shoney's has guaranteed the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department a minimum donation of $20,000. In addition, Davoudpour announced earlier this month that his Nashville-based family restaurant company will pledge an additional $5 per registrant in the event, making the overall donation higher.
