Federal officials are touting the potential of diverse strategies to combat drug activity ill tile nation's most at-risk areas. At a conference earlier this month, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) director Gen. Barry McCaffrey released a report summarizing the threat in each of the nation's 22 High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTAs) and outlining what is being done in each area to combat drug use and distribution.

The mission of the conference and the report, High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas: Threats, Strategies and Supporting Facts, was to "bring folks together to motivate them and to exchange ideas to help them do their jobs …
