NASCAR fined a part-time team that hardly ever qualifies for Sprint Cup races a series-record $200,000 and suspended its driver, owner and crew chief for the next 12 races. Carl Long's No. 46 Dodge was found to have an oversized engine-358.17 cid versus the legal limit of 358.00-at the Sprint Showdown race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Crew chief Charles Swing was fined $200,000, suspended from the next 12 races, suspended from all NASCAR activities until Aug. 18 and placed on probation until Dec. 31. Long and owner Danielle Long, his wife, lost 200 driver and 200 owner points and were hit with the same suspensions as Swing. Long last qualified for a Cup race in 2006 and has made only 23 starts in 93 career attempts since 2000. An appeal is scheduled for June 2.
