Ford has com-pleted a detailed investigation into the huge crash that befell Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikka Anttila during the Portugal Rally in early May. The accident, which has been watched online on YouTube more than 450,000 times, lasted 19.8 seconds as the Focus plunged 200 meters down a mountain.
The report, by Latvala's engineer, Tim Jackson, says: "The use of materials such as T45 Steel for the roll cage meant that the steady, but limited, deformation [of it] absorbed sufficient energy to protect the occupants. Also, the many undamaged areas of the body shell can be rebuilt and used again.
