The coastal town of Okpoama, home town of Governor Timipre Sylva, on the Atlantic fringe in the Brass local government area of Bayelsa State has been hit by oil spill.

Okpoama, a fishing settlement, is host to the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

Apart from having several oil wells within its environs, the Brass/ Ogoda pipeline and the Tebedaba pipelines of N.A.O.C passes through the community to the Brass terminal of Agip on the sea shore.

The immediate cause of the spill said to have occurred on the Eku-eku Creek which was noticed by the natives around the middle of last month could not ascertained but Vanguard learnt …
