MUAR: A sports school and a pre-Olympic sports council for the disabled will be set up to prepare and augment the skills of handicapped athletes for local and international sporting events.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the quality of sports among the disabled had significantly improved following the mass participation of handicapped athletes in sports.

He gave the example of the performance of the 10 disabled national representatives at the pre-Olympics in Thailand last year. Eight of the athletes won gold medals and two won silver.
