Panel set up to tackle problem of loan sharks.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has formed a working committee to review cases involving loan sharks and its victims.

"The committee had its first meeting on Thursday, chaired by the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Mahmood Adam, involving representatives from various agencies under the Home Ministry," said a statement from the ministry yesterday.

It said the committee was formed to gauge the effectiveness of a campaign against illegal moneylenders which started in December 2006.

"From the meeting, it was revealed that action has been taken against 203 loan sharks", the ministry said.
