San Salvador, El Salvador,May 31 (CNA) - Salvadoran President-elect Mauricio Funes said Sunday that El Salvador will continue to maintain formal diplomatic relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan.

During a 30-minute discussion with visiting ROC President Ma Ying-jeou, Funes said that the decision was based on the long-standing friendship and long-term cooperation between the two countries, according to Tsai Chung-li, director-general of the Department of Public Affairs under the Presidential Office.
