Zille to fight 'land grab' DA to take legal action after ANC transferred provincial land to national government on eve of election, writes LINDA ENSOR RELATIONS between Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and national government sank even lower on Friday when the Democratic Alliance (DA) leader threatened legal action to protect her turf.

The former African National Congress (ANC) Western Cape government secretly transferred 1000ha of prime land worth an estimated R500m to a national government housing agency on the eve of the April elections.

At a press conference on Friday, Zille described this as a cynical act of asset-stripping and bad faith, and said she was seeking a legal opinion on how to get the land back to her government as soon as possible. The bulk of the land is in the metropolitan area in suburbs like Constantia, Mowbray, Ravensmead, Plumstead, Phillipi, Belhar and Southfield although chunks are spread across the province in towns such as …
