Generic piperacillin and tazobactam: medication errors.(Safety and Efficacy Issues)

United Kingdom -- Generic versions of piperacillin/tazobactam are now available. These medicines have a different formulation and different compatibilities compared to the brand leader product (Tazocin[R]) which was reformulated last year. These differences raise the potential for serious medication errors.

Health professionals are requested to take note of the following important information about generic medicines that contain piperacillin and tazobactam:

* Generic piperacillin/tazobactam products must not be mixed or co-administered with any aminoglycoside.
