The shadow on the cover is a katydid (ka te did). What can you actually see? (A pair of antennals and parts of the katydid's legs)

The long, warm days of summer have come gone. This pair of maple leaves is not as green as it was in summer. Let us watch the calendar to see how these leaves change over time.

The days are shorter. The air is cooler. What's happened of the berries and leaves? How many days from October 15th?

The Gingko

The gingko grew wild millions of years ago during the time of the dinosaurs. It was discovered growing next to temples in China. The gingko is a living fossil. Today the gingko is grown by people. It no longer grows wild as it did millions of years ago.

Autumn is here. The cool air and weak sunlight have made the green color or chlorophyll (klor a fill) disappear to show the red, orange, and yellow coloring or carotene (kar' a ten) in the leaves.

The red dragonfly changes from brown to red every autumn. Why does it do this? To let others know it is ready to mate.
