DESPITE FACING strong competition from the redesigned Audi A4, Acura TSX, and others, the Infiniti G still came out on top in our tests and remains our highest-rated upscale sports sedan.

The Infiniti has been updated with a new, larger, 3.7-liter engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission in place of the five-speed automatic in last year's G35. Now the car is quieter while cruising, with 2 mpg better overall fuel economy.
It also gets a name change to G37, reflecting the increased engine displacement. The G's excellent handling, good ride, and well-finished interior remain largely unchanged.
The redesigned Audi A4 and Acura TSX, and the Volkswagen CC were also tested as part of this month's group. The A4 is slightly larger than the model it replaces, and it sharpens its sporty demeanor. The TSX (which is sold as the Honda Accord overseas) is a reasonable alternative to some models that cost thousands of dollars more. The CC is basically a sleek, more stylish version of the Passat sedan.
Prices ranged from $29,675 for the Acura to $37,525 for the Audi.
In this group, the G37 and TSX are recommended. That design of the Infiniti has excellent reliability and the Acura has consistent above-average reliability. The Audi and Volks wagen are new designs for which we do not have reliability data, and therefore we cannot recommend them.
