Pluses. Apple's new Shuffle, $79, is now among the smallest 4-gigabyte players around, less than half the size of the old Shuffle. It can handle 1,000 songs. Apple included VoiceOver technology to compensate for lack of a screen.
Minuses. The device has no controls, relegating them to proprietary headphones. Despite the voice feature, navigating music is compromised.

Bottom line. The new Shuffle is more versatile than the old $49, 1GB model (still being sold). But we recommend at least considering non-Apple players before shuffling off to buy this iPod.
