The European Commission has imposed a fine of EUR 1.06 billion on Intel for abuse of its dominant position on the market for computer chips. Intel is accused of engaging in illegal, anti-competitive practices to exclude competitors from the market for x86 central processing units (CPUs). In the period October 2002 to December 2007, Intel had at least a 70 percent share of the worldwide x86 CPU market. The commission found that Intel engaged in two specific forms of illegal practice.
