Like a double espresso, diet motivation usually starts off strong but can lead to a crash. By recognizing their weaknesses and consulting the experts, Lauren Semino, Suzanne Wilson, and Dana Lenetz are readjusting their regimens to give their dietsand the scalea jolt.

MOTIVATION CHALLENGE: "My resolve tends to wane around 4 P.M., and I head straight to the office candy jar. On weekends, I'll have cookies, sugary cereal, or crackers."

MOTIVATION SOLUTION: "Plan for your hunger in the afternoonand not just with a single apple, but with a mini meal that combines protein and fiber," says weight-loss expert Stephen Gullo. "Try yogurt and fruit, or a hard-boiled egg with cruditA[c]s or high-fiber crackers, which will give you energy and satisfaction. Or grab a skim cappuccino; the milk's protein makes you feel full. A healthy afternoon snack also makes you less likely to carbo-load at dinner."
