Tretchikoff's Lost Orchid gets R2,9m at Kebble art auction TO THE rousing applause of those attending the sale of slain mining magnate Brett Kebble's private art collection, auctioneer Graeme Britz knocked down Vladimir Tretchikoff's Lost Orchid for R2,9m last night.

Tretchikoff has been back in vogue since May last year when auctioneer Stephan Welz set tongues wagging after it sold one of his works for R3,74m. However, Giles Peppiatt of rival auction house Bonhams pointed out earlier this week that of the four major Tretchikoff works that have come on sale since then, not one has cracked the R1m mark.
