Dear Editor:

The brief article in the December 2008 issue of Policy & Practice, "Number of Americans on Food Stamps Expected to Top 30 Million," led me to reflect on the value of traditional entitlement programs. Though block grants have been praised for the flexibility they frequently offer, I'm very grateful that the growing number of needy families and individuals in our community can access food stamps without worrying that the pot of available funding will be exhausted.
