Six down, one to go.

Bidding for the machines to be leased for the 2010 general elections has hit a snag after six of the remaining seven groups were declared ineligible; the last bid was still being scrutinized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of press time.

The poll body said it is still early to declare a failure of bidding.

"The companies will be filing motions for reconsideration so we don't want to say that there could be a failure of bidding," Comelec spokesman James Arthur B. Jimenez said in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the third bidding day.
