The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series returned to action for the first time since Daytona in January, and the Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing duo of Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty won for the first time in 10 months, surviving a 30-minute assault by Michael Valiante at Virginia International Raceway.
"We're back in the game, Gurney said of their ninth victory. "We got a brand-new car, and it's fast.
Gurney and Fogarty, the 2007 Daytona Prototype champions, last won at Mid-Ohio halfway through last season. At VIR, Gurney took the lead from Valiante's Riley-Ford with 16 laps remaining by briefly going four-wide through lapped traffic.
