General Motors has fired road-racing group manager Steve Wesoloski. Wesoloski, 43, worked at GM for 20 years and was an engineer for production Corvettes before joining Corvette Racing in 2001; he became boss in June 2005.
No reason was given for the split. GM Racing director Mark Kent will handle Weso-loski's previous duties, at least for the time being.
Kent denied to us that this move is any indicator of a reducedor even canceledCorvette Racing effort, saying that GM's original intentions for the program remain in place.
This means that Corvette Racing will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, plus select ALMS GT2-class races this year and a full season next year.
Its contracts with sponsors and partner Pratt & Miller, which builds the race cars, run through 2010.
Riley Technologies, as of AW's April 27 deadline, had not settled a lawsuit it filed against GM in January alleging damages of more than $14 million, but company boss Bill Riley told us that he expected to reach a settlement within days.
According to the suit, GM reneged on a deal to allow Riley to homologate and build customer Corvette GT2 race cars. Riley claims GM balked at the last minute and refused to sign homologation papers required by the FIA and that the manufacturer subsequently gave the project to factory partner Pratt & Miller.
