The result of the third round of the American Le Mans SeriesLong Beach on April 18remains open after the Patrcentsn Highcroft Acura team appealed an official's decision that handed the sister Acura run by De Ferran Motorsports the overall win.
Scott Sharp led in Highcroft's ARX-02a until the only round of pit stops during the 100-minute race. Once co-driver David Brabham climbed in, the official held the car in pit lane for 20 seconds because, it was alleged, the mechanic holding the fire extinguisher was wearing an unapproved helmet. Highcroft protested that the helmet passed inspection and had been in use since the start of the Acura program in 2007. The appeal will be heard before the next ALMS race, at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah in May.
