(From Bristol Evening Post)
D Ci Gene Hunt never had this sort of problem.
Back in the Eighties, you got into your Audi Quattro, fired it up it - to use the catchphrase of the BBC One sci-fi police drama Ashes to Ashes - and roared off down the road.
It's not so simple nowadays.
If DCI Hunt and his iconic red sports car travelled forward in time to 2009, firing up the Quattro could take on a new meaning, as a result of the five-cylinder engine overheating because he hadn't been able to replace the coolant hoses.
For the vehicle many car enthusiasts regard as an emblem of the Eighties - when it dominated rallying in the Group B era thanks to its revolutionary four-wheel drive design - is in danger being rendered obsolete by a lack of spare parts.
The issue also affects Audi typ85 or B2 cars, including the Quattro, and also the Audi S2 which was the Quattro's successor. It is also beginning to affect the later Typ89 saloons, estates, coupes and cabriolets.
