Everyone faces hurdles they need to overcome at some point in their lives. But with the challenges of Every year, a charity is nominated to benefit from Badminton, with a fence named after it and collections made during the four days of competition.
In 2009, it is the turn of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), which is appropriate considering our troops are involved in high-profile fighting abroad, although in fact the charities are picked by Badminton organisers two or three years in advance.
To help gain maximum exposure, a charity representative is invited along to the press preview day in mid April. This year, the ABF's controller, Cirencester-based Major General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter, went along.
