Siauliai, Lithuania, May 1 (CTK) - Pilots of Czech Jas-39 Gripen fighters are now responsible for the protection of airspace of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, all of them NATO members, as their Danish counterparts passed the task to them today. Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia do not have their own fighters to protect their airspace. "The area we are protecting is about three times larger than that of the Czech Republic. This is a NATO outpost," Commander Jaroslav Mika, head of the 211th tactical squadron, said. After two months, most of the 75-member Czech contingent will rotate, but the commander and his closest team will stay in Siauliai.
