Sustainable Australia campaign.(DISPATCHES FROM THE FIELD: ACF CAMPAIGN UPDATES)
With the Federal Government spending billions of dollars to avoid an economic slow down, ACF has been working hard to ensure that the money goes towards making our homes and school buildings more energy- and water-smart as well as boosting investment in sustainable infrastructure such as public transport.
We are bringing together a group of public transport allies representing industry, community and health organisations calling for a substantial investment in public and active transport infrastructure. At the moment Federal Government spending on roads is 12 times more than on rail and we want to turn this ratio around.
ACF and the Victorian Council of Social Service launched a report last October entitled Housing Affordability: More than Rent and Mortgages to argue why building energy- and water-smart houses and suburbs with good access to public transport will help address our housing affordability problem.
