AMASSIVE pounds 1m-plus boost for youth-related arts in the North East has been announced as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Up to 12 projects involving young people from across the region will be in line for awards ranging from pounds 30,000 to pounds 100,000 - and a group of 15 to 21-year-olds will be picking the winners and sharing out the cash.

Run by Generation 2012, a newly-announced funding programme set up by Legacy Trust UK, the idea is to develop a more youth-orientated cultural sector in celebration of the upcoming Olympic Games.
