Taiwan - Chunghwa sees revenues, EBITDA fall in Q1.

Chunghwa Telecom reported first-quarter revenues of TWD 49.1 billion, down 3.6 percent from a year earlier, while net profit edged up 0.7 percent to TWD 10.8 billion, helped by lower taxes. EBITDA declined 10.7 percent year-on-year to TWD 23.4 billion, with the margin dropping to 47.6 percent from 51.3. The company blamed the EBITDA decline on higher operating costs, led by personnel, as well as the lower sales. Internet and data revenues fell 0.5 percent to TWD 12.5 billion, mainly due to price cuts, while mobile revenue dropped 3.1 percent to TWD 17.6 billion as the Taiwan operator was hurt by the economic downturn and tough competition.
