Reports reaching us from sources close to President Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad indicate that he held talks with elders of the Hawiye Cultural and Unity Council early this morning. The elders are said to have put forward plans which they said would assist in stabilizing the situation in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The elders are said to have questioned President Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad about his trip. The president also spoke on conflicting statement made by some government officials in the last two weeks [while he was away from the country]. The elders asked President Shaykh Sharif …
