TAIPEI, May 1 Asia Pulse - As soft and warm breezes herald the approach of summer, the first geographic park in Taiwan's northeast coast and Yilan area will be officially opened Saturday to public tours, a tourism official said Thursday.
Chen Mei-kang, head of the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau, said the opening of the "Bitou-Longdong Geopark" on May 2 is aimed at bolstering local development and promoting eco-friendly tourism to inject new life into local communities.
Chen said the geology of Taiwan's northeast region, particularly the curious and intriguing rock formations created by sea erosion over thousands of years, is amazing and impressive not only to tourists but also to international researchers.
Nanya is the northern gateway to the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area. The views from there encompass rising mountain peaks, large expanses of ocean, unique land and rock formations, serene fishing villages and quiet towns.
From Nanya, tourists can travel to Bitou and Longdong where the Bitou-Longdong Geopark, with its unique ecology and geology, will be opened to the public.
