FOREX - RUPIAH UP AGAINST U.S. DOLLAR IN EARLY TRADE - APRIL 30, 2009.
JAKARTA, April 30 Asia Pulse - The rupiah strengthened significantly against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday on profit taking by investors.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp10,670-10,700 per US dollar, up 115 points.
Foreign investors purchased the local currency as they were worried over swine flu affected several countries, Kostaman Thayib, Director of Banking Retail of PT Bank Mega Tbk, said here on Thursday.
They tended to shift their funds to the Indonesian capital market which was considered safer, he said.
The rupiah immediately opened 130 points higher, but it went up only 115 points ...
