The announcement that there is no money to sponsor over 20,000 school leavers for tertiary education has sparked controversy throughout the country with some youth reported to be threatening not to vote for the ruling party.

In the streets, some people argued that government should scrap certan less important programmes to fund education. A majority of people who spoke to Mmegi said that government should stop the nomination of councillors and the constituency football league with immediate effect and direct the money used in these ventures to educate the youth.
