It was a car-free zone and two-wheelers too had to be parked to one side, affording the shoppers carefree freedom to roam from shop to shop. The evening being pleasant after a hot summers day, I had taken my wife there by scooter. My role ended after I had dropped her in the midst of the madding crowd. Far from being a connoisseur of shopping, I dreaded these outings with my shopping-maniac wife.
