Philippines: President Arroyo orders creation of youth service corps nationwide.
Section: General News - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Executive Order 788 to promote a youth national service.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said President Arroyo signed the order last March 30 but was released only recently.
Under EO 788, the youths, ages from 18-24, will undergo a youth national service to be composed of a National Service Corps (NSC) and a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC).
The National Service Corps will be similar to a domestic Peace Corps geared to the unemployed or underemployed skilled youth or college graduates.
