Microsoft last week formally introduced an upgrade to its variant of Windows for handheld devices, Windows CE 2.0, with a raft of development tool updates.
Hoping to spark development for WinCE 2.0, Microsoft made available on its Web-site beta versions of toolkits for Visual Basic 5.0, Visual C++ 5.0, and Visual J++ 1.1., all of which are add-ins to the respective development tools. Also announced was an embedded toolkit for Visual C++. Final release for the tools is expected in early 1998.
One integrator of Windows-compatible embedded software welcomed the tools.
