The rise of new technologies such as genetic testing and whole body imaging are 'cutting out' the GP from healthcare, experts have warned.

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics has launched a consultation into services aimed at the public that look to bypass the input of GPs.

Lead researcher Professor Christopher Hood, from the University of Oxford, said: 'Cutting out GPs may sometimes be a good thing, providing us with convenience, privacy and control over our health.
