SEYMOUR -- The Chatfield-LoPresti Building Committee changed its mind on who should be the architect for the elementary school renovation project, choosing the lowest bidder instead of the firm more familiar with the project.
Committee members voted 8-5 Monday to endorse Silver Petrucelli & Associates of Hamden to be the project architect. Silver Petrucelli had bid $1.064 million, the lowest of four bids received last month.
Previously, the committee recommended hiring Antinozzi Associates of Bridgeport for the job, but at a figure $430,000 less than the $1.53 million Antinozzi had bid. The Board of Selectmen is expected to officially choose a firm at its meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
The Chatfield-LoPresti committee reconsidered its recommendation two weeks after First Selectmen Robert Koskelowski and the town's top board asked for a written explanation as to why it chose Antinozzi for the job even though it did not offer the lowest bid.
