Year-old start-up New Oak Communications will demonstrate at NetWorld+Interop what it calls an "extranet access switch," which is a $50,000 box that combines routing, authentication, tunneling, and encryption services.

New Oak's NOC 4000, due in December, is aimed at IT managers who want to reduce costs by giving remote users and business partners secure access to their corporate networks via virtual private networks (VPNs) over the Internet as opposed to using expensive phone lines and remote-access servers.
