Microsoft is augmenting two of its operating system flavors -- enterprise wanna-be Windows NT Server and fledgling Windows CE handheld OS -- with features designed to push them both further into their target markets.

The company announced last week the first beta of Windows NT Server 4.0 Option Pack, a bundle of application and communication technologies designed to enhance the existing version of the operating system with many of the features that also are slated for Version 5.0.

This option pack will give existing NT 4.0 users a taste of some enterprise-minded services, such as Message Queue and Transaction Server, without having to switch to the Enterprise …
