As you have surely noticed, RI/IR has a new look as of the beginning of 2009, in terms of both its presentation and its content. RI/IR's new style is modern, spare and distinctive. It highlights the content of each issue and the bilingual nature of the journal, which is part of what makes Relations industrielles/lndustrial Relations stand out among academic journals in the field of industrial relations. We have also changed some publication specifications, and these can be round on RI/IR's Web site (www.riir.ulaval.ca). As such, we have specified that, as for most academic journals, all revised manuscripts must be submitted within one year of the first submission date. Henceforth, we will be asking authors to provide a list of key words, which have become essential in the world of on-line usage. As before, each manuscript must be accompanied by a 125-word abstract, placed at the start of the article. Furthermore, the manuscript must now be accompanied by a summary of approximately 300 words, rather than the longer 900-word summary that was required in the past. The 300-word summary must be provided in English, French and Spanish. Due to constraints regarding the publication of articles, this new rule will be applied gradually over the course of the year.
Lastly, you will also notice that each issue now includes seven articles rather than six. The hiring of new university colleagues over recent years has led to a considerable increase in the number of manuscripts received and accepted for publication. In order to allow authors to be published within a reasonable timeframe, we decided to increase the number of published manuscripts for as long as is necessary.
On occasion, as is the case at the start of this year, RI/IR will also publish an additional text, which will not necessarily take the form of a standard article submitted to the journal, but which will be retained because of its relevance and the contribution it makes to the industrial relations field. One such text was published in Volume 63, No. 3 (2008).
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who agree to evaluate manuscripts and to review books and other publications. These activities, which are essential for the publication of a journal such as ours, are nonetheless time-consuming in this era when one is always short of time. Please rest assured that your contribution is highly appreciated. Finally, I would also like to thank the whole editorial team for their day-to-day contribution to the functioning of RI/IR. Without their dedication, RI/IR could not continue to exist as one of the rare independent journals, published by a university department rather than a publishing house.
