After a noticeable absence, lip gloss is shining again. This time, it's not over-the-topthe soft shades are refined peaches, nudes, and pinks with no obvious glitter.
There was plenty of sparkle on the spring runways: metallic jackets at Louis Vuitton, sequined minidresses at Balmain, flashy safari pants at Ralph Lauren. And when we could tear our eyes away from all that, we noticed another bit of dazzlethe peach, nude, and pink glosses on the models' lips.
A couple of years ago, makeup artists shifted their allegiance to matte lipstick, perhaps as a reaction to the ubiquity of Paris Hiltonstyle glosses. But the current return of shine comes with just the right touch of restraintand a little less stripper-esque gaudiness. The gloss colors are soft and pale, and the textures are devoid of overt glimmer. "A bit of shine on the lips is flattering because it reflects the light, helping to give the rest of the face a healthy glow," says makeup artist Diane Kendal, who created the looks on these pages. Shine on.
